20260926 Plenum

From The Munich Maker Lab's Wiki

The Plenum is a regular meeting of all people involved with the space to talk about things and decide stuff. If you have any topics to add, go right ahead! Please sign your points with your name (by adding a "--~~~~" after your text).

After the Plenum, please follow the tasks outlined in Cycling the Plenum to archive the discussion.

Preamble

  • The Plenum is an institution to decide what the space should look like, physically and in other ways, such as virtually.
  • Things concerning the space should be discussed at a plenum.
  • Everyone on-site can participate in that process, member or otherwise.
  • Everyone can lead a plenum; no need for board members to do that.
  • Topics should ideally be announced on the Plenum wiki page beforehand.
  • The Plenum should be held in a language that everyone participating understands.
  • Scheduling: Second Thursday of the month at 8 pm and the last Saturday after the cleanup (which starts at 4 PM)
  • Plenums should be no longer than 90 minutes.

Next Plenum: Saturday, Sep 26 after the cleanup (around 6:00 PM)

Projects & Groups update

This is a quick update from group meetings at our space, other long-term space projects (e.g., Lasercutter, CNC, etc.) or of the lab internal projects.

MuMaLab visit by Stadtrat and FabMaker Group

Last weekend we had some different contact points with other communities and visitors.

On 17.09 Philipp, Severin and me, have visited the Haus der Eingarbeit (HEI) near Ostbahnhof together with a lot of other people from open workshops around Munich as part of the 4th Werkstatt Stammtisch Edition. Next to the visit of the HEI workshop it was a great event to connect. Also people from the "FabMaker" (Group of people from Czech, French and Germany Open Workshops) have been there.

On 18.09 we got a visit by the Stadtrat Lars Mentrup as part of his visit of the Kreativlabor area and we had the chance to show what we are doing and chat a bit about our current challenges.

Later that they also the FabMaker Group visited us and we gave tours again and made also a small interview for the Verbund Offener Werkstätten (VOW), which we are also part of. The FabMaker Group together with the VOW is currently working on an updated guide how to setup and start own Maker Spaces/Open Workshops and we are happy to contribute a bit with some insights how we run our space. In general the VOW is a great source for us to handle compliance and other topics.

Workshop rolling door broken

Our workshop rolling door is broken at the moment. In general both rolling gates needs maintenance in general.

Do not change anything on the workshop gate, since it might be dangerous and in responsibility of the landlord.

The landlord has anyway planned service for all rolling doors now. A new company has now a contract starting by October. Detailed dates are not fixed yet, but the building technician told us, they will try, that we get a fix as soon as possible.

Rambu Nozzle upgrade

I have a Obxidian High flow nozzle assembly for P1S lying around since some time, and I would like to install it onto rambu, it provides higner and smoother flow which results in better quality and faster print time, and filament is less likely to get stuck on the nozzle which reduces blob or residue induced print failure or artefacts. Supported officially by bambu and they also sell it on their site, and one config dropdown change in slicer is all it needs. Also prints fine without config change, and one can set the machine to warn you that a high flow nozzle is installed. --Spacezhang (talk) 10:30, 26 September 2026 (UTC)

Drinks for cleanup helper

In the past, we had a rule that drinks were free for helpers at the cleanup day (I believe two drinks per person), but it was never properly documented. I think this small benefit, alongside the food budget of 70€, is a nice incentive, so I'd propose we formally vote on the two free drinks per helper and write the rule down properly.

From our current budget perspective, this is affordable: with 10–20 helpers, the cost would be roughly 20–40€ per month. -- Milian

Other topics

  • One storage box is free at the moment. We would like to give it to Energy4Ukraine, since they are very active and have a high space need. They are also the next on the waiting list. As before, it will not be allowed to store any batteries inside the space, but this rule applies in general to the whole space. -- Adrian & Milian

  • The band saw was repaired and got better labeling. A label was also added, that it's basically to weak to use it for curved cuts. Michael W want also to fix the dust pipe later as well. Therefore we do not need to give it back to it's owner. If people say a better band saw would be beneficial for the lab, it's still open that people can propose an alternative later. Any one against keeping the saw in the workshop? -- Milian & Michael
    • We decided to keep the machine

Save the date: General Meeting Saturday, October 24th.

Next general meeting (Mitgliederversammlung) is on Saturday, October 24th 3PM

We've set up a Nuudel poll so you can indicate whether you're planning to come, which will help us plan capacity. There's also an option for "I really want to come, but can't make it on that date" . We'll only consider rescheduling if a significant number of members can't attend but genuinely want to join. The poll will stay open until the date of the meeting: https://nuudel.digitalcourage.de/TIoxB11CVAWjGU4y

There will be plenty of updates on our financial topics and hopefully some news on our rental situation as well.

We'll also be electing a new Board of Members. We definitely need a new treasurer and since we've made good progress streamlining things over the past year, the role should be significantly easier to take on than before.

If you could see yourself taking on a board role and want to know more, please reach out to us. We've started documenting the general responsibilities here as well:

What would you like to change or to be changed? Anything you don't feel comfortable with within the space?
