20261008 Plenum
From The Munich Maker Lab's Wiki
The Plenum is a regular meeting of all people involved with the space to talk about things and decide stuff.
If you have any topics to add, go right ahead! Please sign your points with your name (by adding a "--~~~~" after your text).
After the Plenum, please follow the tasks outlined in Cycling the Plenum to archive the discussion.
Preamble
- The Plenum is an institution to decide what the space should look like, physically and in other ways, such as virtually.
- Things concerning the space should be discussed at a plenum.
- Everyone on-site can participate in that process, member or otherwise.
- Everyone can lead a plenum; no need for board members to do that.
- Topics should ideally be announced on the Plenum wiki page beforehand.
- The Plenum should be held in a language that everyone participating understands.
- Scheduling: Second Thursday of the month at 8 pm and the last Saturday after the cleanup (which starts at 4 PM)
- Plenums should be no longer than 90 minutes.
Next Plenum: Thursday, Oct 8 at 8 PM

Say thank you
- Dominik V. for updating our Laser Access system to support our new RFID Token with longer ID length
Projects & Groups update
This is a quick update from group meetings at our space, other long-term space projects (e.g., Lasercutter, CNC, etc.) or of the lab internal projects.
Proposal for Halloween event
Maggie would like to schedule a small Halloween event on Saturday October 31st. It would be a small Halloween party with costumes and candy and lights and a halloween playlist.
- Approved
Proposal for electronica meets makerlab
11.11.2026 cometogether "Open Hardware Meets Business"; present electronic projects to electronica visitors and cometogether with Feuerzangenbowle and grill sausages
- Approved
Let's join right for repair initiative
Right to Repair Europe is a Europe-wide coalition of environmental, consumer and repair organizations running a joint campaign to push for laws and policies that make products easier to repair and give more support to repairers. The campaign explicitly invites groups and organizations (e.g. Repair Cafés, repair initiatives, non-profits, companies) to join as members, get listed on the website, access resources/Slack and newsletters, and take part in political advocacy.
Joining is free for NGOs and I think it fit's our club goals: https://repair.eu/de/mitglied-der-kampagne-werden/
Request for approval, that the Munich Maker Lab e.V. get a member of the initiative --- Milian
- Approved
Vorstand updates
What would you like to change or to be changed? Anything you don't feel comfortable with within the space?
Postcard Flyers for the MuMa lab have been edited and I would like to get Lab approval and move forward with ordering them on paper.
- Last review in the social media slack channel, then we'll get quotes
Things to Buy
(Per-plenum spending limit for purchases that belong together: 250€. Larger amounts go through a loomio poll.
To get back your paid money send the invoice(s) to finance@munichmakerlab.de within 3 month. Extension of this time-frame needs to be approve by the Plenum beforehand. Make sure to have a separated invoice for Lab purchases)
Additionally, to the 80€ already approved for the LED-Tubes, some extra 40€ to get The Good Ones - with shipping 117,70€. We talked about it in the chat and there is basically exactly one lamp we want (good efficiency, color, lumens) and that costs more. We still want to go for a 10 pack apparently.
- Approved
24 white bowls for the kitchen. The cost is €0.50 each in sets of 6 (€3.00 per set). 12€ in total - vote for 15€ just to be sure
- Approved

Get Involved
If you want to be mentioned at the previous section as well, one of the easiest ways is to take one of our MiniJobs or to get involved in one of our Lab Projects.
This is a great way to participate in the Munich Maker Lab and contributing time helps to keep our space in a good shape.

Introduce Loomio poll
I'd like to introduce a Loomio poll for a new replacement mini CNC.
The CNC 3020-PRO MAX V2 has served the lab well for over three years since it replaced the old CNC 3018-PRO. The original promise was kept: three years of maintenance, and the beginner CNC course happened regularly. As I'm approaching the end of my master's, I think now is the right time to get the lab an improved CNC. My reasons:
- After more than three years of community use, the precision is degrading due to the trapezoidal lead screws and partially round-rod rails. Replacing them is possible, but costs a lot of time, effort and money, on a machine that is still privately owned by me.
- Some members have successfully milled soft metals like aluminium on it, but the speed has always been lackluster.
- With the big CNC from Korbinian, which has a 4th axis, getting up and running, the 3020 can no longer cover the full training practice activity range.
- Over the past three years, better-performing machines have become available on the market.
- Black Friday is coming up.
I therefore propose that the lab buys a Genmitsu 3030-PROVer Ultra with the 4th-axis module during Black Friday for at most €1,000. The exact price will only be known during the sale; it's currently €983.90 with the forth axis and €718.95 with the bare machine.
This would make reliably milling aluminium, bronze and other soft metals possible without extensive configuration tweaking, and at a decent pace, so bigger projects become feasible. The new machine has about 10 cm more working area, a much more powerful 710 W spindle, and dual linear rails plus ball screws on all axes, which eliminates the backlash and precision loss issues. It also has built-in dust protection and tool cooling, which the old machine only had through custom modifications. Seems like from a few videos out there it can even mill steel at a very decent speed. Further improvements include stronger stepper motors and a modern offline controller, and it should fit in the same space as the old CNC.
Again, I can promise to maintain the machine and give courses at least until I finish my master's in about a year, and to provide technical support for at least two years after that. --Spacezhang (talk) 17:40, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
- We will set up the Loomio Poll as follows:
- Buy Genmitsu 3030-PROVer Ultra
- Buy Makera Z1 Desktop CNC
- Not buy either
We will count both buy options together to see if we want to buy a new machine so that people don't have to vote strategically.
Request for online participation
If necessary, you can request to participate remotely (via jitsi). Please briefly describe why you want to participate remotely and what topic you want to discuss. (additionally to adding the topic on top!)
