The Plenum is a regular meeting of all people involved with the space to talk about things and decide stuff. If you have any topics to add, go right ahead! Please sign your points with your name (by adding a "--~~~~" after your text).

After the Plenum, please follow the tasks outlined in Cycling the Plenum to archive the discussion.

Preamble

• The Plenum is an institution to decide what the space should look like, physically and in other ways, such as virtually.
• Things concerning the space should be discussed at a plenum.
• Everyone on-site can participate in that process, member or otherwise.
• Everyone can lead a plenum; no need for board members to do that.
• Topics should ideally be announced on the Plenum wiki page beforehand.
• The Plenum should be held in a language that everyone participating understands.
• Scheduling: Second Thursday of the month at 8 pm and the last Saturday after the cleanup (which starts at 4 PM)
• Plenums should be no longer than 90 minutes.

Projects & Groups update

This is a quick update from group meetings at our space, other long-term space projects (e.g., Lasercutter, CNC, etc.) or of the lab internal projects.

• Computertruhe e.V. Linux Workshop: On the 02th of August from 2 to 6PM there will be a event in the Space: "Linux-Installationsworkshop der Computertruhe". Werner one of our Member is from Computertruhe and will held this workshop together with some other people. This workshop will be open for member and external guests. More Details will follow soon. https://computertruhe.de/tag/muenchen/ 2th. of August is also one of the "Digital Independence Days" and these workshops are also part of this iniative. -- Milian

• A lot of re-supply material was bought e.g. tape for the label printer, re-placement wrenches, tape, etc. -- Milian

Improving participation as we grow

Update: Will bring it up in the next plenum again, mainly new people helped out during the cleanup. We have now reached 180 members. From a financial perspective, this is excellent, and continued growth is positive. However, from an operational perspective, we are increasingly facing an imbalance between members who actively contribute to the physical space and those who primarily use it.

Our current system is intentionally very open and requires little fixed commitment. While this has worked well so far, it is unlikely to remain sustainable in the long term. We need more people who actively support the space, especially members willing to take ownership of specific tasks or areas and help reduce the workload on the Vorstand.

We should discuss how to address this more effectively. One idea that came up recently is to assign clear points of contact for defined areas. These individuals would help coordinate responsibilities, encourage participation in smaller maintenance tasks, and ensure that upkeep, resupply, and safety standards are consistently maintained.

A possible model, inspired by the CCC, would be to introduce time-bound “angel” roles or responsibility periods (for example, six months). During this time, individuals would take responsibility for a specific area. If someone no longer has the capacity or leaves, that is not an issue—as long as it is communicated early so a replacement can be found.

This approach could also lower the barrier for newer members to get involved, as expectations and time commitments would be more transparent and structured.

To get back your paid money send the invoice(s) to finance@munichmakerlab.de within 3 month. Extension of this time-frame needs to be approve by the Plenum beforehand. Make sure to have a separated invoice for Lab purchases)

• Pool:
  • we've enjoyed the pool quite a bit these past few weeks, and it seems to be that other people around the Kreativquartier also come over to use it occasionaly. I've bought it on a whim for the KLO event, so this is wether we want to have bought it as the MuMaLab: 120,42€ with the filter and ground plates and everything

If you want to be mentioned at the previous section as well, one of the easiest ways is to take one of our MiniJobs or to get involved in one of our Lab Projects.

This is a great way to participate in the Munich Maker Lab and contributing time helps to keep our space in a good shape.
