20251113 Plenum

From The Munich Maker Lab's Wiki

The Plenum is a regular meeting of all people involved with the space to talk about things and decide stuff.

If you have any topics to add, go right ahead! Please sign your points with your name (by adding a "--~~~~" after your text).

After the Plenum, please follow the tasks outlined in Cycling the Plenum to archive the discussion.

Preamble

  • The Plenum is an institution to decide what the space should look like, physically and in other ways, such as virtually.
  • Things concerning the space should be discussed at a plenum.
  • Everyone on-site can participate in that process, member or otherwise.
  • Everyone can lead a plenum; no need for board members to do that.
  • Topics should ideally be announced on the Plenum wiki page beforehand.
  • The Plenum should be held in a language that everyone participating understands.
  • Scheduling: Second Thursday of the month at 8 pm and the last Saturday after the cleanup (which starts at 4 PM)
  • Plenums should be no longer than 90 minutes.

Next  Plenum: Thursday, date at time

Topics for the Plenum

What are you currently working on?

  • Justin: Working on some Plant based project ;)
  • Valentin: Hacking Action Stuff
  • Ben: building on his DIY coffee scale, reworking his PCB design
  • Simon: Trying to finish his move
  • Ludwig: Hacking his instruments, considering doing a workshop about DIY instruments
  • ChrisK: Self-Improvement, trying to repair crocs with heat
  • Marco: training his leather DIY skills, putting up the better safety glasses from last plenum
  • Arthur: Soldering more Powerbanks
  • Max: Helping with the Powerbanks
  • Adrian: Fixing a little RC Forklift

Say thank you

  • A big thank you to Severin for continuously supporting our IT team – even though he often doesn’t have enough time to hang out in the lab.
  • Thank you to ChrisB and Korbinian for cleaning, fixing and writing the cutting tutorial for the lasercutter with nice pictures :)
  • Phier for donating a pack of 100 DIN-A4 laminator foils and for the yellow screws to properly mount the vice to the drill press.

Projects & Groups update

This is a quick update from group meetings at our space, other long-term space projects (e.g., Laser Cutter, CNC, etc.) or of the lab internal projects.

Laser Cutter

ChrisB and Korbinian (Chajax Red) Cleaned the head of the Laser Cutter. The head itself was full of dust/particles and also apparently the lens was installed upside down. We can now cut everything under 5mm no problem (and with a nice cutting edge too!).

The things to buy section will feature a new lense as the old one does have a hot spot and some other permanently burned in stuff that sadly can't be fixed otherwise.

New plunge saw

The new Scheppach plunge saw arrived at the Lab and a wiki page was created: Scheppach Plunge Saw

  • There is only one rail next to it, please put the other rail back :)

Metal Box for Lithium Cells

We would like to but up a Storage thingie for Lithium cells. It would be outside, made out of complete metal and at least half a meter away from the wall so that we don't get hung by our insurance

Vorstand updates

  • At the moment, we’re trying to clean up our member list and payment records. There’s more to do than we expected. In addition to membership fees, which haven’t been processed properly over the past two years, some new members weren’t correctly onboarded in the banking system. There are also several members who are still paying the reduced student or trainee rates, even though they’re probably already fully employed. We need to update all of this step by step, which is quite a tedious process.
  • The calculation is in progress regarding the upcoming rent increase and more generally, to get a clear overview of our income and expenses -- Milian

Get Involved

If you want to be mentioned at the previous section as well, one of the easiest ways is to take one of our MiniJobs or to get involved in one of our Lab Projects.

This is a great way to participate in the Munich Maker Lab e.V. and contributing time helps to keep our space in a good shape.

Current key topics looking for additional support:

  • SocialMedia Team needs more member. Contact Milian if you are interested
  • Support the course instructor group and help new member to get to know our tools: We are searching at the moment for more instructors for our regular 3D printing, Mini CNC and also for a new welding introduction course
  • More workshop events: Got a cool project or special expertise to share? Whether it’s PCB design, building custom sensors, or mastering a unique tool our members would love to learn from you! Host a one-time workshop and inspire others with your knowledge. It’s a great way to showcase your skills, connect with fellow makers, and keep our community learning together.
  • Support the lab with re-supply ordering. We need some people who want to care long term e.g. to buy new MDF material for the laser cutter or other resupplies like paper towels etc.

Things to Buy

  • It’s not really something to buy, but I’d like to donate a small digital microscope to the lab. From experience, it’s been extremely useful in various projects. I also got an upgraded one during my recent trip to China. Also, are we interested in a glue dispencing machine? I got one mainly for some projects for manual solder paste dispencing but can also bring it to the lab if we have interest on it. --Spacezhang (talk) 19:43, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

  • We need some more acrylic panels for the CNC Introduction course, the 20 pcs I've order last time have been used up again. I would like to order 40 pcs more which should last us another half an year. --Spacezhang (talk) 21:33, 11 November 2025 (UTC)

  • I would like to reserve a budget of up to 65,-€ if there's a good Black Friday offer for ZigBee plugs to extend our Home Assistant setup. For that price we should get 4x sockets and 4x switches (flush-mounted). --Phier

  • I'd like to spend some money for Christmas decorations as the current setup is a little sad. 100€ would be nice. -- AdrianM
