Projects & Groups update
This is a quick update from group meetings at our space, other long-term space projects (e.g., Lasercutter, CNC, etc.) or of the lab internal projects.
Miscellaneous
- One of member Klaus Bickert deceased last year, which is very sad. He was known by his nickname Ufo, his enthusiasm about electronics and was since 2015 member in the club. He donated already a lot of electronic components last year and we got now also some more components from his heritage. -- Milian
- Request to host the Elektronikfreunde Meetup from the MuCCC this Monday 30th of March. The Elektronikfreunde Meetup is regularly hosted at the MuCCC club rooms, but they have next week no space because of an other event. We have are taking part of this meetup regularly and already wanted to invite them once to our space. Is it ok, to host the group this Monday in the Munich Maker Lab? It will be open for interested member of us as well. No other event on Monday. We will update our Calendar. -- Milian & Friedjof
Status Power Optimization:
Regular updates in #infrastructure
- Main lights have been reduced

"New" CNC in the Workshop
Last Sunday Korbinian brought his CNC to the Lab. He will lend it to the Lab so we can use it and find out if it has the capabilities we are looking for.
Some technical details:
- Working area: 900 x 600 mm
- 2200 Watt Spindle
- 4-Axis (including a rotary one)
The next steps to get it up and running are already planned. Help is really appreciated, if someone wants to support contact Korbinian or Philipp or post in #cnc-router
A spoil board and a case (DIY out of alu-profiles and wood/Plexiglas) is needed. The proposal is that the Lab buys it in the first place since Korbinian lends the machine for free to the Lab (see ThingsToBuy).
When he takes it someday from the Lab we'll discuss again what to do with the stuff the Lab paid. Let's discuss this. --Phier
- Agreed by everyone
Belt- and Discsander Update
The price of the device which was introduced two Plenums ago increased significantly (HBM 150 x 1220). From 240€ to 300€ and the shipping costs increased as well (from 70€ to 110€).
Hence I would propose this alternative: Güde GBTS 1100 for 360€ (free shipping)
It has basically the same specs (+ more powerful motor; - lower belt speed) and it's from a German manufacturer. --Phier
Workshop Improvement Project
Marco held a meeting today where he proposed some modifications. Main ideas were to build a huge bench in the back of the workshop where currently the CNC, Giftschrank, and the shelfs are. Also to build a large cabinet that would have enough room to store most of the stuff currently stored at the various place in the workshop. Consensus was that starting with the new workbench is the best idea.
- Plenum: Also try to be aware of shorter people or people not as strong when building any tall storage solutions.
New MeetUp: Board Game and Modifcation Night
For everyone who enjoys board games and/or wants to make some modifications or improvements to theirs.
First meeting will be on FR 17.04. at 6 PM and afterwards on every last Friday of the month, every second month (so 26.06. and 28.08.)
But isn't there a Slack channel you ask? Yes, of course it's #board-games-and-mods --Phier
Electronics corner
Aaron radically sorted out diodes and transistors in the Franzosenschrank. He is pretty sure the drawers are now distilled to the actually useful stuff. You have two weeks to cry about your favourite missing component before they finally get thrown away.
Vorstand updates
- Info: Two external film crews have been filming a few scenes over the past two weeks in different areas of the Kreativlabor. They ran into issues with their planned power connection and asked if they could use our sockets for some smaller lights. Since it was a short-notice request, the board agreed. They donated €50 + 20€ to cover electricity costs - and hopefully also a box of Spezi.
- Info: We have sent out an other news E-Mail to all member to inform all member, about the most important topics of the club (renting situation, financial situation etc.). We have a lot of supporting members who are not often at the space and it might help to inform all to get some more support e.g. to aquire more donations.
- Info: The tax return for 2022–2024 has been initiated. We are required to submit a tax return every three years to maintain our non-profit status. This could have been done already at the beginning of 2025, but like many other things, it was not done directly. However, the submission deadline is still being met at the moment.
- Info: Request to landlord regarding our electric bill for 2025 have been sent. We still hope to get some money refunded, since we have not been properly informed in time about the switch to measured billing instead of billing included in our rent.
- Info: Regarding the rent situation: There will likely be a transition period until October 31, 2026. During this time, the landlord (MGH) will refrain from evictions if tenants (like us) do not sign the new contract yet. This gives more time for coordination between MGH, the city, and the tenants. During the transition period, a usage fee will be charged according to the city council decision from December 2025. For us, that basically means paying the new, higher total rent, since only the studio houses received a 50% discount. Our lawyer is still trying to ensure that we will not have to pay VAT even for this temporary arrangement. Starting at the end of April, we are expected to transfer all outstanding rent payments and the new rent. Overall, this is a positive development — there’s no immediate risk of eviction, and MGH seems to be shifting towards a more cooperative mode, engaging with issues instead of rejecting everything outright. Our main goals at the moment are: avoiding payment of the VAT loss (since we cannot claim it for tax purposes), ensuring normal usage terms, and securing a long-term stable rent that doesn’t exceed the current demands. After Milian attended an on-site meeting two weeks ago, the lawyer representing the entire complex reached out to us directly. This personal contact has helped establish a better communication channel for future questions.
What would you like to change or to be changed? Anything you don't feel comfortable with within the space?
- How to reserve space for workshops? Is it ok to post on the Slack reserving space on days when I teach the stained glass course? (such as soldering area and not making noise in the workshop that requires hearing protection since there aren't enough earmuffs and it is hard to teach with the noise) I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but I have also had to ask people to change what they are doing and I don't know if I actually have priority during the workshop... --Hannah
- Workshops announced in the calendar definitely have priority. We should think about improving communication so course instructors don't have to "throw out" people from the spaces they need.
- We check if the Bot in Slack can also mention this.
Things to Buy
(Per-plenum spending limit for purchases that belong together: 250€. Larger amounts go through a loomio poll.
To get back your paid money send the invoice(s) to finance@munichmakerlab.de)
Current spent budget: 1600€ of planned 4000€ for purchases and consumables in 2026
- An ampere meter kit for the laser vent as a second safety precaution to enable the laser itself. 12,30 € --Phier
- Approved
- Budget for a spoil board for the new CNC. Budget depends if we want a Wood/Plexiglas or an Aluminium one. Wood/Plexiglas up to 30,- €; Aluminium up to 140,-€ --Korbinian & Phier
- 50€ approved for some kind of high quality plastic
- Case for the CNC (rough plan for the materials): Aluprofiles 30x30 - 12 m for about 110€, Angle connectors 18€, Corner brackets 21€, Hinge 18€, Plexiglas around 50€ at Treibgut, MDF around 25€. Sum: 242€ --> Budget in this Plenum 200€, then we start ordering and building. Most likely additional budget needed in a following Plenum.
- 200€ approved with nots to possibly downgrade to 20x20 Aluprofile. Also MDF walls might not resist water splash in a future submerged cooling setup
- More stained glass supplies/tools- the course has been full each time (with extra people showing up that I have to turn away)- larger chisel tips for the soldering irons in the basement, another glass grinder, and more consumables as well in the future- amount depends on what the MuMaLab wants from the workshop in the future. --Hannah
- 150€ approved
- 2x hardened steel hot ends for our Bambu 3D printers. This was already discussed in February but not ordered. It's currently 25% off, so 87€ for both. --Phier
