20250612 Plenum

From The Munich Maker Lab's Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Plenum is a regular meeting of all people involved with the space to talk about things and decide stuff. If you have any topics to add, go right ahead! Please sign your points with your name (by adding a "--~~~~" after your text).

After the Plenum, please follow the tasks outlined in Cycling the Plenum to archive the discussion.

Preamble

  • The Plenum is an institution to decide what the space should look like, physically and in other ways, such as virtually.
  • Things concerning the space should be discussed at a plenum.
  • Everyone on-site can participate in that process, member or otherwise.
  • Everyone can lead a plenum; no need for board members to do that.
  • Topics should ideally be announced on the Plenum wiki page beforehand.
  • The Plenum should be held in a language that everyone participating understands.
  • Scheduling: Second Thursday of the month at 8 pm and the last Sunday after the cleanup (which starts at 11 am)
  • Plenums should be no longer than 90 minutes.

These are the notes of the Plenum that took place on: Thursday, June 12th at 8 pm

Projects & Groups update

This is a quick update from group meetings at our space, other long-term space projects (e.g., Lasercutter, CNC, etc.) or of the lab internal projects.

Social Media

Let's try to boost a bit more our Social Media apparence. I think it's important to share a bit our activities to inspire other people, are attractive for e.g. sponsorings and show also that good things are happening on the Kreativlabor area. I want to have a bit better process, so it's easier to have more people involved. Idea: Collect interesting things in #socialmedia slack-channel, discuss and then post it every 1-2 week on social media. This makes it a bit transparent what is planned and might be easier to fetch content from other members. The content part is still the hardest part.

Target platforms at the moment:

At the moment mainly Severin, Adrian and me are covering the social media part. Please ping us in #socialmedia if you are interested to join.

There is also now the #newsfeed channel in place, which shows new content from Mastodon and the newsletter.

Drill press

The Flott drill press was sold for 352 €. We bought the new one for 255 €. So we made almost 100 € profit.

Vorstand updates

- Date Mitgliederversammlung?

  • More info on this next week, have to finalize a date with Robert --David

- We had a lost of smaller and bigger projects in the last Plena. Is there a short summary available, how many paying members we have (=income) and how much fixed costs for rent and other stuff we have at the moment per month? -- Milian

  • I will collect the data and create a wiki page for that, when I'm back in Munich. Additionally, this page should ideally be updated regularly by the Vorstand --David
  • Power will be connected to the new power lines in KW26, any wishes on what day this should or definitely shouldn't happen? --David => No preference. If it takes until evening don't do it on (open) Thursday.
  • Our neighbours from off studios will have there sommerfest on Saturday, July 5th. Yard usage will be limited, and we shouldn't plan any major events on the same evening. I will figure out the details with them next week and post them to general. --David

MiniJobs

If you want to be mentioned at the previous section as well, one of the easiest ways is to take one of our MiniJobs. This is a great way to participate in the Munich Maker Lab e.V. and contributing time helps keeping our space in a good shape. You can find all information about the scope of the available jobs on MiniJobs.

Stuff from the past

What was discussed at the last Plenum? What's the current status of those things? 20250525 Plenum

  • Stuff for the Demo Shelf project was bought and will be implemented soon (Milian)
  • Soldering Stations update for electronic workshops have been bought and are ready for the next workshop (Milian)

Drill bit refills

I want to make our drill bit handling easier. At the moment there are always some sizes missing and also the new good sets, get incomplete quickly. I think this is normal for a community workshop, that some get broken or lost from time to time, but we should make it easier to keep them complete. My plan: Buy two big low/medium quality sets (wood and metall) drills, so we can easily refill broken and lost ones in the drawer. I want to place the refill sets next to the refill screws. Then we can still have one or two high quality sets for more experienced users in the drawers, but not everyone will use them, because the normal drill bits are accessible more easily. Budget request is in the things to buy section. --Milian

Saw blades

The saw blades of the mitre and table saw are very dull. I want to buy a new one (respectively) so the old ones can go to a sharpening service. --Phier

Ventilation in the Laser/3D Lounge

I want to upgrade the fan in the Laser/3D Lounge to a more powerful on. The new fan is capable of exchanging the air volume of the cube (21,6 m3) in less than two minutes. This helps to quickly get out the toxic fumes from the Laser/3D printers and also to reduce the temperature by blowing out the hot air from the top and sucking in cold air at the bottom. Budget request in the things to buy section. --Phier

Dogs in the MuMaLab

Karl asked in Slack what are the current guidelines for bringing dogs to the space. Since we don't have any guide in the wiki at the moment here is an proposal, for some simple guidelines, which balances the interest of dog and non-dog owner.

To make sure everyone – humans and animals alike – has a good experience, please keep the following in mind:

  • Know the environment: Our workshop and some other areas can be noisy, busy, and sometimes a bit messy – not the best place for animals. Please avoid bringing your dog especially into the workshop area, 3D printing area, and the living room. Best place is the community area.
  • Friendly only, please: Only bring your dog if they are calm, well-socialized, and truly friendly with all people.
  • Be mindful of others: Not everyone is a dog person. Some members may have allergies or fear of dogs. Let’s respect their comfort and keep the space clean.
  • Contain your dog: You must be in control of the whereabouts of your dog. If he/she isn't trained sufficiently we ask you to keep them on a leash.
  • Safety first: If someone feels uncomfortable or afraid around your dog, we kindly ask you to step outside with your dog or take a break from the space.

=> Approved unanimously (changed to compromise with/incorporate the suggestions below)

-- Milian & Adrian

  • Suggested additions/changes to the proposal from Phier (in bold):
    • Please avoid bringing your dog especially into the workshop area, 3D printing area, and the living room. The couches are a no-go-area. Best place is the community area. Don't bring your dog on crowed days like the Open Thursdays.
    • Your dog must be on a leash at all times inside the space as soon as some other people are around.

  • Suggested additions/changes to the proposal from Bernhard (in bold):
    • Your dog must be on a leash at all times inside the space and make sure your dog cannot get into the living room / Kitchen / Workshop -- BotoxBitch - But will it Parkside (talk) 16:55, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

Make Cleanup event more sexy

Our regular cleanup event is not attracting much people at the moment. I remember we had times, where it was a bit more organized as a nice happening. So I would like to propose two ideas, to make it more attractive. --Milian

  • Besides the renaming of the event I want to bring up the discussion about the day of the cleanup as well as a second day. --Phier
    • Cleanup is currently on Sunday 11 AM. Is this a good day/time for most of the people or should it be relocated (e.g. Saturday evening)?
    • In my opinion a second (smaller) cleanup day would benefit the Lab. Preferable on a evening where lot of people are around like the open Thursdays. It doesn't have to be the size of a big cleanup, just a few but most important tasks.

=> We'll change the date to Saturday 4 PM - the Plenum will move to after that cleanup (approved unanimously)

Adapt invites

Make the event naming more general to make clear, it is not only about cleanup, but is also a community day to work on lab and own projects. This should be also reflected in the description which is not really informative especially to new members.

Current name and description:

"Cleanup & Plenum"
This event does not require registration and everyone is welcome to join. This is a good event for people that want to see the space and cannot attend on Thursday. We start at 11 am with the cleanup, followed by our Plenum.

New name and description:

"Lab Project & Cleanup Event"

Our community event to refresh the space and work on lab improvements and own projects together. We start at 11 AM with cleanup and lab project work, followed by our Plenum afterwards.

This event does not require registration and everyone is welcome to join. This is a good event for people that want to see the space and cannot attend on Thursday.

=> separate Invite: Plenum

"Plenum"

Plenum! Let's talk about what to do with our lovely space.

Please put your topics into the wiki in advance at https://wiki.munichmakerlab.de/wiki/Plenum

Food & snacks budget.

We had this one or two times for special cleanups like the wiki cleanup. My idea have 70€ budget for food and snacks e.g. ordering Pizza together during the event. --Milian

  • I think 50€ per cleanup is also enough to spend on food. It's equivalent to two extra large Pizzas from Call-a-Pizza which can be shared. --Phier

=> Approved for the cleanup in June. We will discuss at the Plenum on 10th July if we continue with it.

Anything you don't feel comfortable with within the space? What would you like to change or to be changed?

  • People letting their kids (Age 14 and below) roam around the space without any supervision. -> it's a workshop with sharp / dangerous tools and precious stuff, not an "all you can touch buffet" for bored kids. BotoxBitch - But will it Parkside (talk) 17:02, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
  • According to google, we now have regular opening hours between 07:00 and 22:00 everyday, except Sunday. -> remove them before ppl. become confused and try to come by during "opening hours" ?! BotoxBitch - But will it Parkside (talk) 17:09, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

=> I reported it already to David last week, he should have access --Milian 20:29, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

  • Big hole drill set, the old ones are either dangerous or not sharp anymore: 56 € --Milian
