20241027 Plenum

From The Munich Maker Lab's Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Plenum is a regular meeting of all people involved with the space to talk about things and decide stuff. If you have any topics to add, go right ahead! Please sign your points with your name (by adding a "--~~~~" after your text).

After the Plenum, please follow the tasks outlined in Cycling the Plenum to archive the discussion.

Preamble

  • The Plenum is an institution to decide what the space should look like, physically and in other ways, such as virtually.
  • Things concerning the space should be discussed at a plenum.
  • Everyone on-site can participate in that process, member or otherwise.
  • Everyone can lead a plenum; no need for board members to do that.
  • Topics should ideally be announced on the Plenum wiki page beforehand.
  • The Plenum should be held in a language that everyone participating understands.
  • Scheduling: Second Thursday of the month at 8 pm and the last Sunday after the cleanup (which starts at 11 am)
  • Plenums should be no longer than 90 minutes.

This is the Log of the Plenum that took place on Sunday, 27.10.2024 at 11AM

Topics for the Plenum

What are you currently working on?

  • AdrianM: Building a prop for my wife's Halloween Costume; Playing Factorio
  • ChrisB: Building a meshtastic node
  • Phier: Built the Cabinet; Finishing his Subwoofer
  • Aaron: contemplating life; conducting workshops
  • Alex G: Gene data science project
  • Justin: Make a new spilboard for CNC; Robotic arm; Building a positron
  • Ivan: Making decoration for the Halloween party; Maybe building a box for the Artillery Sidewinder X2
  • David: Adding a PicoBoot to his Gamecube; Learning how to operate DMX for his fancy cinema light

Projects & Groups update

This is a quick update from group meetings at our space, other long-term space projects (e.g., Lasercutter, CNC, etc.) or of the lab internal projects.

New-table-for-mitre-saw.jpg
  • IT Migration & Optimization Team
We've been hacking away on consolidating and upgrading lots of our online infrastructure. Just some updates on what has happened so far:
    • Setup of a new Hetzner VM using automation tooling to make it much easier to reproduce in the future in case we need to upgrade or expand
    • Migration of the main website and our slack inviter to the new VM
    • Migration and complete rewrite of the space status backend (status.munichmakerlab.de). Looks the same, much more streamlined underneath.
    • Migration and update of our Etherpad instance
    • Setup of a test environment for NextCloud with SSO, so allow for other projects we have in mind

  • The new table/cabinet for the mitre saw was build. In one column is space for 4* member boxes or 3* larger boxes (like the one for the hot glue gun, plunge saw, welding stuff).
How should we use the newly gained storage space? Shall we rather gain more space on the wall shelf by moving some supply boxes there or make it available for member boxes?
    • We have a bunch of new tools that we want to get for the workshop (e.g. bike maintenance stuff). We'll probably find ways to shuffle our workshop inventory around to use the space
  • We might need to fix the mini lathe again? We will investigate about what is wrong with it and then either fix it or stash it away.
    • There is also an option to replace it with a better version - nothing concrete yet though
  • One of the drill presses also has a bunch of wobble - same options as with the lathe
  • We should also look into buying a drill sharpener or outright replace the old ones
    • David will ask the WerkBox how they handle it
    • If anyone does have a sharpener at home they are welcome to bring it by the space so that we can reuse instead of recycle :)

Vorstand updates

  • David is collecting issues to relay to the MGH about the substance of the building the space is in (like e.g. "The roof leaks")
  • Word around the street is that the electrical "upgrade" is going to happen soon-ish; they apparently hired 2 people for that that already got a tour of the space
    • They will replace the wiring around the Kreativquatier
    • We will apparently get a big new wire that will go to our breaker box

Say Thank you

  • Thanks to Adrian for fixing/upgrading the foot switch at the men's toilet.
    • David is considering to bolt it to the ground
  • Thanks to Oleksandr for donating A4 foils for the laminator and some electronic parts.
  • Thanks to Phier for building the mitre saw cabinet
  • Thanks to Adrian for improving the keep-the-door-open thingy
  • Thanks to Phier for improving the wiki main page

MiniJobs

If you want to be mentioned at the previous section as well, one of the easiest ways is to take one of our MiniJobs. This is a great way to participate in the Munich Maker Lab e.V. and contributing time helps keeping our space in a good shape. You can find all information about the scope of the available jobs on MiniJobs.

Stuff from the past

What was discussed at the last Plenum? What's the current status of those things? 20241010 Plenum

Anything you don't feel comfortable with within the space? What would you like to change or to be changed?

  • I would like to bring up the topic of extending the storage time on the project pallet from 7 days to 14 days.
In the past I've noticed that for bigger projects (which more and more people have) 7 days aren't quite enough. Nonetheless after 14 days the stuff must be definitely removed or it would become free2take.
    • If you want something on the pallete and it's past the 7 Days you can put a paper as "dibs" on it, Write about it in #general in slack and then you can take it after another 7 Days
      • This excludes very expensive stuff
      • If there is a slack username on it please contact them directly

Slack updates

Two changes in Slack:

  • The space status will now be posted into a dedicated channel, #spacestatus. The MuMaBot will still reside in #_general, so you can ask for the status in there with !status (The remaining functions of the bot seem to be broken at the moment.
  • There is a new channel, #completed-projects, where we encourage all of you to share stuff you've made at the lab.

Precious Plastic Christmas Party

I'd like to do a small Precious Plastic Christmas Party at the space. Date will be either November 25th, or December 9th, at 21:00. Any objections? --Tiefpunkt (talk) 00:09, 22 October 2024 (CEST)

  • It's open to anyone who wants to come
    • Approved

Movie Nights

I'd like to organize an monthly movie night. First or second Monday of the month, based on my free time, and we'll show one making-related movie. We'll announce the movie night in the calendar, the movie itself will be a surprise. Who'd be interested? --Tiefpunkt (talk) 00:09, 22 October 2024 (CEST)

  • The people at the plenum were interested

Things for Newsletter, Social Media & Website News

3D Printers

  • The Artillery Sidewinder X2 is way too slow (with the default settings) to print anything of use in a reasonable time. Since we have the rule to not print in the lab while you're not there (for insurance reasons) I would suggest we offer it up for people to borrow it and print at home. We might even put together a transport box for it in the future to minimize risk of damaging it. This way people can use it, we don't have to worry about fireproofing the 3d printing lounge and we have more space for the next bullet point
    • Ivan wants to build a transport box
    • We will set up a slack poll to see how many people would even like to borrow it in the first place
    • If that comes back "positive" we will write up a Page along the lines of "how to use it"
  • The Bambulab P1S already has 350 hours on it - and is by far the preferred printer as waiting for the current print to finish and then printing your own stuff is most often faster than printing on any other machine. I would like to suggest that we set up a loomio poll for buying another P1S. This one wouldn't need an AMS so we could get it for "just" 550€ + shipping. This would greatly help alleviate bottlenecks at our open thursday and on the weekends.
    • We could also look into upgrading the mk3 to a mk3.9 or mk4, but that would set us back about €639 and the mk4 would still not be enclosed
    • The P1P is the same machine without panels - since heat creep is an issue with the P1S it might be a viable option
    • David will send them a mail; maybe we can get a nice deal as a makerspace?
    • The loomio poll will go up at least one week before the end of the black friday sale 03rd of December

Introduce Loomio poll

Things to Buy

  • We don't have any large foils for the laminator left. I'd like to order A3 ones for 18 € --Phier (talk) 09:46, 18 October 2024 (CEST)
    • approved by everyone
  • Cartridges for the Dymo labelwriter. Set of 3 for 10 € --Phier (talk) 07:13, 23 October 2024 (CEST)
    • approved by everyone
  • For the saw dust vacuum I would like to buy a three-way valve. This solves the hassle to stick the tubes in and out of the vacuum.
The 90° angle could have an impact on the suction power, but if we encounter some issues with it we could easily 3D print a Y-piece.
    Total (including delivery): 32,50 € --Phier (talk) 09:51, 25 October 2024 (CEST)
    • approved by everyone
  • The small CNC 3020 has been steadly improving, and I would like to request some budget around hundred euro to put toghether a proper metal cnc setup, buy some more specialized cutter bits for acrylic and other material, and cover the cost of the new spilboard that I designed. 15180 Extrusions,CNC Bits --Spacezhang (talk) 22:28, 26 October 2024 (CEST)
    • 150€ approved by everyone
  • 2 crates of beer for the Halloween party
    • approved by everyone
