I feel like many things we regularly discuss at the plenum could be easily solved or replaced by one of the many other means of communication we have, such as slack, mailing list or contact to a specific group such as the awareness team or the board. It seems to me that we carry stuff from plenum to plenum, but in the meantime don't really do much to move forward, even though we have a bunch of tools as our disposal. I'm curious if there are others sharing that same feeling, and what we could do about it. --[[User:Tiefpunkt|Tiefpunkt]] ([[User talk:Tiefpunkt|talk]]) 00:08, 30 June 2020 (CEST)

The Plenum is a regular meeting of all people involved with the space to talk about things, and decide stuff.

If you have stuff to add, go right ahead! Please sign your points with your name (by adding a "--~~~~" after your text).

Preamble

  • The Plenum is an institution to decide on what the space should look like, physically and in other ways, such as virtually.
  • Things concerning the space should be discussed at a plenum.
  • Everyone who's there can participate in that process, member or otherwise.
  • Everyone can head a plenum, no need for board members to do that.
  • Topics should ideally be announced on the Plenum wiki page beforehand
  • The Plenum should be held in a language that everyone participating understands.
  • Scheduling: second Thursday of the month at 8pm and last Sunday at 11am

Next Plenum: Sunday, June 28th at 11am.

Topics for the Plenum

Disclaimer online plenum

Holding an online plenum is no new process and we will only do this do try it out during the time the space is closed. Doing online plenums in the future needs plenum approval. In case we decide to do online plenums in the future this acts as a proof of concept.

What are you currently working on?

Tell everyone about your current projects and stuff you've done for the space

Say Thank you

Let's say thank you to those who did some awesome stuff for the space since the last plenum

  • German and Meier for building the SpaceCheckin station, tim bodeit und aaron for code reviews & additional help
  • Sven, German, Annika, Bernhard for working on getting the laser back up and running & David for preparing new filters
  • Sven and German for getting new welding gas, Severin for reserving it at the local Bauhaus
  • Severin for getting a new pressure regulator for the welder, and some other metal working supplies for the workshop
  • Matthias and Severin for keeping the space IT stuff afloat
  • Aaron/German for finishing the kitchen lights

Stuff from the past

What was discussed at the last Plenum? What's the current status of those things? 20200611 Plenum

Anything you don't feel comfortable within the space? What would you like to change or to be changed?

Social Media We need an kinda active social media manager or just semi-public access to it so people can make posts or advertisements for the lab

The website needs a little bit of rework. Currently, stuff like Equipment is in the wiki. But the step from the website to the less simple wiki is huge when somebody is just looking for a space to do something specific and wants to see if he can do it in our maker space (like the laser cutter for example)

Some people still have a second storage closet which is against our policy and decisions made in earlier plenums. Coffee machine still has a password and is a good example for the way things currently are in the lab

The shelf with storage crates we made specifically for either very tall or disabled people is used by people not really fitting in these categories

Some people throw away stuff without asking beforehand or just deciding things on their own

There is an increasing problem with discrimination, hate, aggressiveness, and active obstruction on people trying to actively work on or for the space

Plenum frequency

There seems to be a little bit of uncertainty about the current frequency of Plenums. For the past four months, we've had one monthly Plenum, on a Thursday. The Plenum Preamble notes two Plenum dates per month. And to make things even more unclear, there have been discussions about moving and canceling Plenum dates in the past (20200310 Plenum), without properly documented decisions. So let's clarify this (and note it down properly). --Tiefpunkt (talk) 18:07, 24 June 2020 (CEST)

Continuous communication vs. The Plenum

--Tiefpunkt (talk) 00:08, 30 June 2020 (CEST)
