Summary and Report 2025.05 Kreativlabor Open
The workshop concept works well for all ages, from primary school children to adults.
- For internal Makerlab workshops, we could consider offering more advanced soldering kits. The Atom and Pollina kits work well for beginners. Some people combined making a kit and afterwards a sculpture.
- The workshop can also be held outside the lab at other events. It doesn’t require much equipment—just tables, chairs, power, and if outdoors, a pavilion with good lighting.
- The combination of building real circuits and making figures appealed to everyone.
- The workshop can be led by people with little experience in electronics. It’s really about hands-on activity.
Challenges
- Some parents left their children at the workshop without telling anyone. Everything was fine, but it’s recommended to announce at the start that children can only be left unattended at their own risk or if they are older.
- Some circuits didn’t work on the first try, usually because of incorrectly soldered parts or cold joints. These were easy to fix, and people were even happier when it finally worked.
- It might be good to offer a very simple electric circuit (battery + switch + resistor + LED) to help share and refresh more basic knowledge about electricity.
Other Notes
- We received €185 in donations for the soldering workshop and €15 in general.
- There are 10 leftover circuit boards, so we can easily do another soldering workshop.
- The cheap soldering stations worked great, but the regular old soldering irons broke one after another. We want to buy some more soldering stations for the future.
