Concept and finances of the new space - an update
We've done quite a bit of writing and talking internally over the course of the last few days and weeks to sort out a way to make the Kreativquartier space work. While we still don't have the lease, I'd like to give an update on the concept we're starting to settle on, and what that means for the space, financially and otherwise. --Tiefpunkt (talk) 13:19, 2 January 2017 (CET)
Personal storage in the new space
We currently have tons and tons of personal stuff in the member shelves and downstairs. When we move to a/the new space, we won't immediately have the same kind of storage space available. So we should limit the amount of stuff we can store at the space, at least temporarily. I'd suggest everyone should have the equivalent of 3 of our standard IKEA boxes of space to store stuff at the new space. Everything beyond that should be taken home, thrown out, or gifted to your grandma, before we do the actual moving. --13:19, 2 January 2017 (CET)
Accessing LaserCAD or Slicer Software is limited
Note: was postponed at last plenum
E.g., LaserCAD and the Slicer for the GermanRepRap is only accessible on the LaserPC. One option would be to provide VPN access to the LaserPC. However, currently only one Login-Session is allowed on that computer. Another option would be to move forward with a Windows Terminal Server that could also provide a plurality of parallel Sessions. Another option would be to have another LaserPC that is just providing the same software for people logging in from remote. Anyway, it would be preferable have the design/slicer software available from remote, so that people who come to the space do not necessarily have to use the software from within the space. People could use their time in the space to socialize more with people in the Space instead of doing isolating computer-oriented tasks.
  • Progress concerning local installations:
    • LaserCAD can be installed in Wine, however it is not very usable when running in Wine
    • LaserCAD works flawlessly in a virtualboxed Windows installation. In ReactOS it is installable with the same trick as used for Wine, yet, the program does not start.
