Long descrition
The event is for people interested in sciences who have acquired a background exceeding common A-levels in one or more disciplines of either natural sciences or engineering. Whether the knowledge was acquire through university or private study is not important, however a certain level of knowledge is necessary to understand papers in the first place.
The objective of the journal club is a interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge as well as a training in reading, understanding and presenting, scientific papers. The results published in the papers will be discussed and critically questioned. This will enable the participants to expand the scope of their scientific knowledge and to follow the scientific progress first hand.
The format: Every participant reads and presents a paper. The other participants are encouraged to ask questions during the presentation e.g. to close knowledge gaps. Each participant should understand the paper at the end of the presentation. The results of the paper are discussed critically. The topics are natural sciences and engineering. Since English is the language of science, solely English will be spoken for duration of the journal club.

Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an wissenschaftlich Interessierte, die bereits über Grundlagen in einer oder mehreren naturwissenschaftlich-technischer Disziplinen verfügen die über das Standardabiturwissen hinausgehen. Ob dieses Wissen durch ein Universitäts- oder Selbststudium erlangt wurde ist unwichtig, es sind allerdings Vorkenntnisse nötig um Paper verstehen zu können.
Das Ziel ist ein interdisziplinärer Wissensaustausch und ein Training im Lesen, Verstehen und Vortragen wissenschaftlicher Paper. Dabei werden die in Papern publizierten Forschungsergebnisse diskutiert und kritisch hinterfragt. Den Teilnehmern wird so ermöglicht ihren wissenschaftlichen Horizont zu erweitern, und den wissenschaftlichen Fortschritt direkt zu verfolgen.
Format: Jeder Teilnehmer liest ein Paper und stellt dieses vor. Die anderen Teilnehmer können und sollen währenddessen Fragen zum Paper stellen, z.B. um fehlende Grundlagen vermittelt zu bekommen. Jeder Teilnehmer soll am Ende des Vortrages verstanden haben worum es in dem Paper geht. Die Ergebnisse der Paper werden kritisch diskutiert. Die Themen sind Naturwissenschaft und Technik. Da Englisch Wissenschaftssprache ist, wird für die gesamte Dauer des Seminars ausschließliche Englisch gesprochen.
