As discussed at 20170907 Plenum, we've reached the user limit for our flowdock. Should we replace it? What are some alternative options? What are features we want from it?

Features

What do we want/like/...?

  • IRC Bridge
  • Native clients for iOS, Android (besides a web view)
  • No service fees
  • Unlimited (> 250) users
  • preferable hosted (vs. self-hosting)
  • Integration of 3rd party tools (in/out) (e.g. mail, trello, feeds, custom webhooks)
  • data protection / privacy ? (is this a concern as we are a German Verein and have to tell our users?)

Alternatives

  • Slack
  • Stride (formaly hipchat)
  • Flock
  • Matrix / Riot
    • Current and future development unclear. The project is looking for funding.
  • RocketChat
    • Free: self-hosting only
  • Mattermost
    • Free: self-hosting only
  • Zulipchat
    • (seems not that slick)
