The display works with DisplayPort only, it's not compatible with HDMI or DVI. It works with Mini-DisplayPort (older MacBooks) and should also work with USB-C. AbuseMark apparently has different boards now for USB-C and also one for HDMI with some kind of active conversion. | |||

Description | A DIY external monitor based on an iPad 3 retina display. |
Author(s) | Peter, Severin |
Tablets have awesomely high resolution display these days. And someone found out, the newest use eDP as connection protocol. This is good news because this is electrically compatible to normal DisplayPort. Anyone needs a 10" Display with 2048-by-1536 resolution for under 150€?
... I don't as well, but I still want one!
Our builds
- iPad 3 Display
- Adapter Board by AbuseMark
- Laser-cut case
- 3mm MDF
- Layer 5-7 are based on the layer5.dxf file
- Some M3 nuts and bolts (2 regular nuts, 4 safety nuts)
The display works with DisplayPort only, it's not compatible with HDMI or DVI. It works with Mini-DisplayPort (older MacBooks) and should also work with USB-C. AbuseMark apparently has different boards now for USB-C and also one for HDMI with some kind of active conversion.

Hardware
We need iPad3 displays, or Nexus 10 displays (eDP as well, but unproven to work) A frame would be nice as well. Maybe out of L-shaped strips of wood or metal with a 3d printed back.
