The Plenum is a regular meeting of all people involved with the space to talk about things and decide stuff. If you have any topics to add, go right ahead! Please sign your points with your name (by adding a "--~~~~" after your text).

After the Plenum, please follow the tasks outlined in Cycling the Plenum to archive the discussion.

Preamble

  • The Plenum is an institution to decide what the space should look like, physically and in other ways, such as virtually.
  • Things concerning the space should be discussed at a plenum.
  • Everyone on-site can participate in that process, member or otherwise.
  • Everyone can lead a plenum; no need for board members to do that.
  • Topics should ideally be announced on the Plenum wiki page beforehand.
  • The Plenum should be held in a language that everyone participating understands.
  • Scheduling: Second Thursday of the month at 8 pm and the last Sunday after the cleanup (which starts at 11 am)
  • Plenums should be no longer than 90 minutes.

Next Plenum: Thursday, May 11th at 8pm

Projects & Groups update

This is a quick update from group meetings at our space or other long-term space projects (e.g., Lasercutter, CNC, etc.)

  • Cleanup: Thank you to the 20 people who helped spring-cleaning the space! We were busy from around 10 am until 4 pm and focused on cleaning the busy areas and the pit. All member boxes were moved from the pit to the gaming area to see which members were still actively using theirs.
  • Lasercutter: The laser cutter is currently producing wobbly lines. This is most likely a mechanical or electronic/configuration problem. We will continue to investigate - if you want to help, please reach out to German so we can coordinate what has been tried before.
  • Gaming area: The power strip has been replaced with a new one. So far no more issues with the fuse. Keep an eye out on it and if it happens again, please let us know on Slack so we can take care of it. Alex additionally sorted through some stuff.
  • Power situation: MGH started to work (as in planning) on power in our building. So in the future will will pay for electricity, but this will take some more time. In the meantime we need to get an overview on how much power we need.

Say Thank you

  • David and German for fixing the gate door controller
  • q3k for debugging on the laser cutter
  • Alex for installing the new power distribution in the gaming area

MiniJobs

If you want to be mentioned at the previous section as well, one of the easiest ways is to take one of our MiniJobs. This is a great way to participate in the Munich Maker Lab e.V. and contributing time helps keeping our space in a good shape. You can find all information about the scope of the available jobs on MiniJobs.

Stuff from the past

What was discussed at the last Plenum? What's the current status of those things? 20230430_Plenum

Anything you don't feel comfortable with within the space? What would you like to change or to be changed?

  • There has been a discussion about the CRT beamer on Slack. It was moved up to the cube after it was decided on a Plenum that we want to get rid of it. While there should always be a way to keep something important to our members, simply moving it to the highest point of the lab a few days after it was decided that we wanted to get rid of it does not seem the most excellent way to ask for that. That aside, the projector emits a super high-pitched sound in the 16-17 kHz region, and I am (un)fortunate enough to hear it loud and clear while it is on. My proposal to solve this situation:
    • Get rid of the CRT beamer (high power consumption, loud fan, annoying 16-17kHz noise, dim)
    • Get a loomio up to buy a projector that does not have these issues and make sure the member can display the art he wants to display

Counter point: This projector is older then most of our members - it still has a lot of life left and is a piece of legacy technology not many people ever interacted with. Even when it was sitting on the shelf people were asking what it was and were interested in it. A new beamer can't provide that. The high pitched noice can be fixed by swapping out a few Cs, the fan noise is barely audible below (there are multiple sources louder, like the drinks fridge) and power (its rated for 215W) is still free, as evident by people charging their Teslas on Space power outlets. Fixing it, and setting up auto-start and mqtt integration will take some time. A better wall mount is already available so it doesn't take up space on the cube.

  • If you want to clean dirty dishes in the kitchen and the dishwasher just ran and is still full, I think it is the best procedure for everyone if you just put away all the clean dishes from the dishwasher first, even if you did not produce them. If you are annoyed by having to do this a lot of times, you can also clean your dishes manually. There was a discussion in Slack about leaving them to air-dry for days next to the sink, but there the dishes will get splashed on so they get dirty again, and take up space. Hence, in this case, you should dry them with a kitchen towel and put them away immediately instead. --ⓒ②② (🅃🄰🄻🄺) 19:06, 10 May 2023 (CEST)
