Archive:Sheet Storage

We need a place to carefully store all the wooden and acrylic plates we cut in our laser.
Requirements
- Size: Sheet size typically is 100x80cm, so this is the minimum per shelf.
- The sheets have to be stored on a plain, stable surface. We don't want to have the sagged and bended material you typically get from the Baumarkt.
- We need several shelves to sort the material and get easy access to them (min. 3?)
- A few of our members want to store their own sheets and would rent space for it. Means maybe 3 additional shelves.
Proposal 1: Horizontal Mounting
Description
- It is based on an Europalette with the size of 120x80cm. We can easily move it with the forklift then.
- In the bottom, there is room for the waste (small Mörtelwannen) separated in acrylic and wooden parts maybe.
- We add several shelves on top of it. Depending on the gap, we can have 6-8 of them.
- For each shelf, we use wooden slats instead of flake boards, Otherwise the whole construction might become to heavy.
- Might need some more cross connections to stabilize (or plank with more OSB)
Advantages
- Material lies flat on the ground and cannot bend.
- We can just pile up in the high and have more space.
- Easy to build
- Cheap
Disadvantage
- Plates are lying on each other, so it becomes a little bit more difficult to get them out (when sorted, should not be a problem).
Costs
For the base construction
Europalette | 1 | - € | - € |
OSB Platte 800x675x12mm | 2 | - € | - € |
OSB Platte 1230x675x12mm | 1 | - € | - € |
OSB Platte 2050x675x12mm | 2 | 3,30 € | 6,60 € |
Holzlatte 200x5,8x7,8cm | 4 | 2,98 € | 11,92 € |
That is roughly 20 €.
For one shelf:
Holzlatte 120x4,8x2,4cm | 6 | - € | - € |
Holzlatte 250x4,8x2,4cm | 3 | 0,80 € | 2,40 € |
Holzlatte 80x5,8x3,8cm | 2 | - € | - € |
Holzlatte 200x5,8x3,8cm | 1 | 1,48 € | 1,48 € |
That is roughly 4 € per shelf.
With 6 shelves the total amount is 44 €, with some chevrons and screws, roughly 50 €
Proposal 2: Vertical Mounting
Description
- It is based on an Europalette with the size of 120x80cm. We can easily move it with the forklift then.
- We use OSB as separators between the shelves. Depending on the distance, we get 4-6.
- For each shelf we us OSB as it is cheap and relatively stable. We mount the OSB with an angle of, e.g. 10°, so that the plates lie on them and do not bend (something from steel would be even better but is more expensive and difficult to build).
Advantages
- Material lies relatively flat on the ground and cannot bend (still the OSB might bend over time, but can be replaced then easily).
- Sheets can be easily accessed.
Disadvantage
- Costs are higher.
- Less shelves, need probably two of them (or pile them).
- With the angle of the shelves, might be more complex to build accurately.
