We have a new Vinyl Plotter. The plotter was bought new by Rene. If you have any questions about the plotter ask him.
Features
* Cutting Width: 126 cm
* Cutting Height: How long is your material?
* Up to 800 mm/s speed
* Up to 500 g of pressure
* Multiple knife angles available
Usage
Basics
There is a computer mounted to the frame of the plotter which can be accessed via RDP on 10.10.20.82. It connects to the network via Wifi.

Please note: The computer automatically boots when powered. Please shut it down gracefully before unplugging power again.

The login credentials are the same ones we use for the laser cutter.

The Software SignMaster is installed and can be used to control the plotter.

You will find a shitty video of the manufacturer how to plot on the desktop. Please don't do any of the setup steps.

You can import many file formats. Also mounted is a network share where you can store your files.

The USB-B connection (on the plotter) is kinda dodgy, you might need to un- and replug it.

If something does not fit: Inkscape is installed.

Cutting speed and pressure
Set the plot speed and pressure on the plotter display. These are values I found work well. If you find new ones, add them to the list.

Vinyl || 500 || 500
Poli-Flex heat transfer vinyl || 500 || 500
Origin
Set the origin by pressing the “Offline” button on the Plotter and then moving the utensil and material with the arrow buttons.

If you have moved to where the lower right corner should be, press origin.

Things to know
If you are cutting, you are using drag knives. They are not centered. The knives have an offset of 0.25 mm.
Disable the offset when drawing with the pen.

Drawing can be useful if you want to try out different designs without wasting expensive material.
Buying Vinyl
In my experience, one of the best places to get vinyl is this particular eBay listing.

They have a great variety of colors and widths. The material is sold by the meter, so you don't have to buy those giant 50 m rolls.

They sell Avery 500 foil which has proven to be a nice universal foil.

Textiles - To put stuff on textiles you can purchase heat transfer vinyl foil. I found "poli-flex" to be both easy to cut and easy to apply. The cheapest place I found it is "tiptopcarbon" (they are also on ebay). --C22 (talk) 23:23, 22 February 2020 (CET)

To Do
* Dust cover. The cutter really needs a dust cover to protect it. We currently use the cardboard box it came in as a makeshift substitute. The cover should be 160x100x40cm
Features
* Cutting Width: 126 cm
* Cutting Height: How long is your material?
* Up to 800 mm/s speed
* Up to 500 g of pressure
* Multiple knife angles available

Usage
Basics
There is a computer mounted to the frame of the potter. The computer can be accessed via RDP on 10.10.20.82. The computer connects to the network via Wifi.

On the Computer is the Software SignMaster to control the plotter.

On the desktop you will find a shitty video of the manufacturer how to plot. Please don't do any of the setup steps.

You can import many file formats. Also mounted is a network share where you can store your files.

If something does not fit. Inkscape is installed.

Cutting speed and preassure
Set the plot speed and the pressure on the plotter display. Down below are values i found work well. If you find new ones, add them to the list.

Material !! Speed !! Pressure
Drawing || 800 || 200
Vinyl || 500 || 500

Origin
Set the origin by pressing the "Offline" button on the Plotter and then move the pen and paper with the arrows.

If you have set where the lower right corner should be, press origin.

Things to know
If you are cutting, you are using drag knives. They are not centered. The knives have an offset of 0.25 mm.
Disable the offset when drawing with the pen.

Drawing can be useful if you want to try out different designs.

To Do
* Dust cover. The cutter really needs a dust cover to protect it.
Getting a fixed IP address
If you need a fixed IP address, choose one that's not taken yet, and enter it in the table above. Done. There's currently no dedicated DNS, we'll tackle that eventually.

IPv6
<del>We got native IPv6 \o/</del> IPv6 is broken, unfortunately. There is IPv6 on the Freifunk WiFi, if you really need it.

DNS
DNS is provided by a docker bind image (https://github.com/sameersbn/docker-bind).

* Internal zone is "intern.munichmakerlab.de", not all hosts are in there yet
* Server is maintained via Webmin, check http://www.damagehead.com/blog/2015/04/28/deploying-a-dns-server-using-docker/ for details
* Server is not configured in DHCP yet, requires some testing first

Hostnames
When setting up a new machine for the space, the machine should be named after a famous scientist or mathematician whose birthday is today or near today. Use the following list to avoid already used hostnames:
Used hostnames
Hostname !! Device Type !! Location
Doppler || PC || Workplace 2
Darwin || PC || Workplace 1
Heisenberg || PC || Spacemonitor near the entrance

Uplink
We are connected to the internet via a Telekom V-DSL connection.

VPN
You can connect to the lab remotely, via OpenVPN. If you need access, contact JanS.

DNS
DNS is provided by a docker bind image (https://github.com/sameersbn/docker-bind).
description=Electronic door lock for the new space
author=tarwin, tiefpunkt
download=https://github.com/munichmakerlab/doorlock
}}
Our space has a super smart electronic lock, which we mostly designed ourselves. Woopwoop!

Theory
We needed a lock that allows us to hand out as many "keys" as we like, but without making it super complicated to use. A lot of hackerspaces used SSH keys as "keys" to their space. For us, that's not user friendly enough, as we expect quite a few non-technical folks to have access to the space

After discussions, we settled for a two-factor system, using RFID cards and PINs. Additional means to authenticate may be introduced at another point in time.

Hardware
Frontend
RFID reader, pinpad, and LCD display, connected to an Arduino.

Prototype used an Arduino Uno, which is a little short on pins. A buzzer would be nice, and we currently can't control the backlight of the LCD.

Current version is still based on an Arduino (a smaller one), a LCD display, and the RFID reader, all in a nice 3D printed case.

Locking Mechanism
We got a motor lock on eBay, together with its electronics, and we'll use that. It's a Dorma SVP 2000 series lock.

The electronics have a set of contacts that can be used to get the status of the lock, as well as to lock and unlock it. We currently just use the pins to (un)lock it.

Backend
A Raspberry Pi, which is connected to the frontend over a serial connection (via a USB thingie), and has the motor lock electronics connected via its GPIOs and a relay. No status checks are being done yet.

Schema
+-----------+
Software
Hosted on Github: https://github.com/munichmakerlab/doorlock, contains both the frontend firmware as well as the software for the backend.

The backend runs on the RPi, and uses a SQLite database to store RFID and PIN information. The "manage_db.py" script can be used to maintain that database.

* How do I unlock the door? Hold your RFID card on the right side of the box, wait for the prompt, enter the PIN and press the green button.
* How do I lock the door from outside? press 0 and the unlabeled button next to it on the right, wait for the confirmation message. Check that the door is properly locked!

Starting at 20:04 so it's nearly on time ;)

Preamble
* The Plenum is an institution to decide on what the space should look like, physically and in other ways.
* All things concerning the space should be discussed at a plenum, if possible.
* Everyone who's there can participate in that process, member or otherwise.
* Everyone can head a plenum, no need for board members to do that.
* Topics should ideally be announced on the Plenum wiki page beforehand
* The Plenum should be held in a language that everyone participating understands.

What are you currently working on?
Tell everyone about your current projects.

* Milena - First time here and is just having a look at what we're doing (interessted in CNC)
* Jenny - Is learning Fusion 360 and she's planing on building $stuff for the space
* Nico - Is trying to silence his gaming PC and more temperature/humidity logging
* Andreas - ARM development boards and he's trying to come more often
* Tobi - ESP on Battery to Influxdb and Grafana
* Christoph - Is doing nothing
* Cecile - Textile meetup and wearables
* Elias - Rear view camera in his car
* Kenny - Sumo-Bot controlled by blood alcohol levels
* Jan - Sensa (power monitoring of washing mashines) which uses Lora
* Rene - Sensa
* Adrian - Git workshop for subversion users
* Ivan - Cupcake and linear filament extruder. He's also saying goodbye as he's leaving Germany.
* Few guys to say goodbye to Ivan
* Benjamin - ROBOTS!
* Peter - Trying to build home-automation stuff. Also wants to finish his electric scooter.

Thank you
Let's say thank you to those who did some awesome stuff for the space since the last plenum

* Ivan - Thx for everthing
* Adrian - Drinks
* Severin and Tobi for building the prototype of the storage box
* All who participated in the cleanup
* Elias for the new couch

Stuff from the past
What was discussed at the last Plenum? What's the current status on those things? 20170810 Plenum

* We still need some money to build up Freifunk here at the Kreativquartier. We have 70 out of 250 €.
* No new status on the gaming area (Somebody said that Theo started)

Anything you don't feel comfortable within the space? What would you like to change or to be changed?
Is there anything that's bothering you?

* We want a kitchen
* It's so hot in the space

Space Status
We want to make normal use of the space status again, so please flick the switch when you're the first one to come in or the last one to leave --Tiefpunkt (talk) 19:29, 20 August 2017 (CEST)

* Couple it to the door lock?
* Flowdock controllable?
* Jan implements ON/OFF display in space status.

Sun Sail
The pavillion over the lasercutter has helped the stability of the calibration. To make that a little more permanent, we could put a sun sail across parts of the space. Does anyone know where to get one for a fair price? --Tiefpunkt (talk) 19:29, 20 August 2017 (CEST)

* Milena offered to donate one but she has to look up the size
* Christoph offered some "Multifunktionsplane" he has at home

Abandoned member boxes
There are a few abandoned member boxes in the space, as in boxes whose owners are no longer members of the space, but also haven't picked up their stuff, even after being notified. What should we do with them? --Tiefpunkt (talk) 23:54, 21 August 2017 (CEST)

* after 6 month and reminder email, stuff gets sorted into vending machine, big stuff gets auctioned.
Most agreed.

Hackathon Team Stuff
The stuff of the hackathon team (lamps, beds) has been removed from it's boxes, moved to Renes private storage area. It feels like there is no place for our stuff. Let's tackle this!
* Where should the hackathon team store it's stuff?
* Should we continue attending hackathons in the name of the munich maker lab?
-- Jan

* Jan and Rene want space for Hackathon stuff (demand unknown) and also the audio stuff (about 2qm)
* Most voted that it's ok for Rene to store his stuff here until we have a better concept for the space
* Jan should label boxes with "Hackathon Team"
* Jan will also design and order MuMaLab Hackathon stickers

Good news: We get involved
In the last few month we got involved in several events on the Kreativquartier. We talked to neighbours, we helped them out, we saved their events. Some success stories to cheer everyone up and polish our egos ;)
* Art-Installation at the Import/Export summer fair.
* Audiosystem Setup and Light for Gregory Infinitys Art Performance
* Audiosystem Setup and Mixing for the International Tubax Super Session at Halle6.
* DIY Fog distribution system for a photoshooting
* some smaller stuff.
* Robotics workshop.

Make Germany Space
The Make Germany wants to be able to use their space.

* We need to clean out the stuff on there until first of September!

Wishlist / Stuff to buy
* Handheld circular saw --Tiefpunkt (talk) 09:57, 11 August 2017 (CEST)
** Would leave mine in the space if I get to rent a storage compartment --Nicolai
* (Woodworking-) Router
** David has one and would lend it to others if they need it

34C3 Voucher
We've got a ticket voucher for the 34C3 so if you want to attend add yourself to the list in the wiki: https://wiki.munichmakerlab.de/wiki/34C3
Renehttps://wiki.munichmakerlab.de/index.php?title=Hackathons&diff=2696Hackathons2017-06-22T11:56:14Z
Rene: /* Participations */

Prize pooling
If we are more attendees than the maximum allowed team size is, we do prize pooling.
This means: if we win something, the items and prizes will be sold and the money is either split between the attendees or spent for new hackathon gear like transport cases/banners/etc.
If someone wants to keep an item, he/she buys it from the group.

Wishlist
For internal use: do we need anything we don't have for our hackathons?
* working WiFi Router with bridging mode for the emergency hackathon kit
* more LED stuff

Packing List
For internal use: don't forget to pack the following stuff and mark it as gone on Stuff on a mission (ideally reserve it beforehand as well)
}}
We got a few RF remote controls from a big fastfood chain. The receivers have serial outputs which output button presses as single bytes.

Button Mappings
Current functions of the buttons on the remotes:

Remote A
Toggle Space Lights || Turn on red rotating light
Toggle Common Space Lights || -
Toggle Lights infront of projection wall || Turn off red rotating light

Remote B
MPD toggle play/pause || X32 vol up
MPD next || X32 vol down
- || -

Remote C
Traffic light Green ON || Traffic light Green OFF
Traffic light Yellow ON || Traffic light Yellow OFF
Traffic light Red ON || Traffic light Red OFF

Software
Severin wrote a python script that takes the button presses sent by the receiver over its serial connection, and parses them. It maps the bytes to the buttons on the remotes, and sends them to our MQTT broker.

Currently, three remotes are registered with the receiver. They are marked with stickers as A, B, and C, and their buttons are numbered from 0 to 5. The script sends the ID of the button (e.g. "B3") to
mumalab/mccafe/1/buttonpress
. Further actions are then defined in our "Automation Layer" (currently a Node-Red installation).

The script currently runs on the PrinterBot machine, which the receiver is connected to.
We have this awesome sound system at the space. It is attached to a raspberry pi running an instance of mpd (music player daemon). Please DO NOT change ANYTHING on the X32 Console, the amplifiers or unplug any cables. You will die.
You can control mpd using a media player client software. We recommend gmpc for Mausschubsers and ncmpc for the nerds.
The MPD can also be controlled via MQTT. Therefore, we have a service running that translates MQTT messages into MPD commands. It's currently running on the PrinterBot machine (10.10.20.25), and the code that's used can be found at https://github.com/munichmakerlab/mqtt2mpd

It's a Sony CRT Projector, not sure which kind exactly. Here's some information on those projectors: http://www.curtpalme.com/Sony10xx_Downloads.shtm

VGA
The projector does not have a VGA input. It has some BNC inputs, which are not working with the standard VGA -> 5x BNC Adapters, apparently because of some awkward Sync-on-Green thing.

TODO: Figure out how it works, and make it work with VGA.
We got some new overkill audio equipment, so we put some mqtt into it :D
Protocol
It has a proprietary network interface used by the Behringer control software. It was reverse engineered, the mappings can be found here: .

We use this python library to interface with it.

There are some simplified commands like 'volume up' for easy use, and the possibility to directly bridge to the x32's protocol. The x32-protocol also uses paths, so you can just append the x32-path to the topics mumalab/audio/x32/set or mumalab/audio/x32/get to set or get arbitrary paths.
You can send it pure json and get back json. We already use the volume commands with the Fastfood Remotes.
The Audiosignals are transmitted via the AES50 standard. The Samplerate is set to 48kHz at 24 Bit. Beyond the capabilities of the Desk, this would allow us to use up to 96 Channels over 100 MBit/s. The overall delay including Processing and Transmitting is fixed at 1.1ms. If you want to learn more about how AES works, click here.
<del>We now implemented the Dante function. If you want to play Audio via Dante, the Dante Channels 1+2 are mapped to the Desk Channels 17+18. For best results, plug your Cable into the Netgear Gigabit Switch and set your Latency to 10ms. </del>We usually only need 2.5 ms but sometimes, there are high spikes. Please note, Dante is a proprietary Protocol and due to the high reliability not Wifi Compatible.
RF power sockets
Switched via MQTT connected basestation. Send the following to
mumalab/room/rcsockets
:

type,house_code,device_code,action

with the options
*
type
- Type of RF sockets used, according to https://github.com/sui77/rc-switch/wiki/HowTo_OperateLowCostOutlets (which is missing type D). Only implemented types are "a" and "d" right now.
*
house_code
and
device_code
- Whatever is set on the socket as address
*
action
- 1 for switching on, 0 for switching off

Audio
The Audiosignals are transmitted via the AES50 standard. The Samplerate is set to 48kHz at 24 Bit. Beyond the capabilities of the Desk, this would allow us to use up to 96 Channels over 100 MBit/s. The overall delay including Processing and Transmitting is fixed at 1.1ms. If you want to learn more about how AES works, click here. An other interesting Document can be found here.

Dante
<del>We now implemented the Dante function. If you want to play Audio via Dante, the Dante Channels 1+2 are mapped to the Desk Channels 17+18. For best results, plug your Cable into the Netgear Gigabit Switch and set your Latency to 10ms. </del>We usually only need 2.5 ms but sometimes, there are high spikes. Please note, Dante is a proprietary Protocol and due to the high reliability not Wifi Compatible.
